Birds flock towards home
Cool, tranquillity descends
Calm and comforting.
Still water captures
Reflections in glassy truth
Mirroring my mind.
Thoughts flicker and flit
Memories and future schemes
All intertwined.
Deeper thoughts calling
Let’s not venture there just now
Play in the shallows.
Breathe in the moment
Notice beauty within
Reflects in our view.
Burnt Out
Anticipating
Yet another storm building
Fearfully waiting.
A look, a request
An unintended trigger
Detonates the blast.
The fallout spreading,
Like lava, consuming all.
Burnt-out shards remain.
Drained, losing hope
It’s not meant to be like this
Empathy waning.
Thank God it’s ended
Home, unable to function
Dreading tomorrow.

Thoughts swirl round and round
Making whirlpools in my mind
Sucking life away.
Ribs aching, yielding,
To the pounding of my heart
Breath stuck in my lungs.
Cobwebs in my brain
Tangled, twisted, tightening,
Cannot clear the fog.
Anxiety rules
Robbing safety from my world
Worry conquers all.
Alert systems on
Seeking imagined dangers
Lurking in clear sight.
